14 day
Mind Cleanse
I am actively trying to intentionally live with positivity in my life. So, when I saw the book, The 14 Day Mind Cleanse by Jacqui Lewis, at my local library, I was drawn to it. I was intrigued by what I may find within its pages.
As often is the case with my relationship with library books, it sat gathering dust on the shelf for a little while, until I realised it was almost due back, so I quickly picked it up and read it.
The 14 Day Mind Cleanse is written by Jacqui Lewis, the Internationally-renowned founder of a meditation school called The Broad Place.
Lewis begins by saying that, “When a thought is created, the body responds. You have 80,000 – 90,000 thoughts per day. What are they doing to your body?”
And this is really the premise for the book: it provides tools to cleanse your thoughts and create a more harmonious mind and body.
It is very easy to read, beset with inspirational quotes and simple, easy to follow ways to clear out your mental clutter and introduce calm and positivity.
In book, you are given seven little techniques to build a clearer, more positive mind:
- Cleansing your mind with daily meditation.
- Introducing a tech-free power down hour before bed.
- Intentionally stopping multitasking in order to live a more mindful life.
- Banning the word “busy” to reframe your thoughts around being constantly occupied.
- Intentionally cultivating or culling the messages you feed your mind through things like social media, books and the news.
- Increasing your happiness by doing things you love at least once per day.
After introducing these practices over the week, you then continue them over the following week and journal about any insight gained.
What is really interesting, is that I already had begun using these techniques before I picked up the book. I am already a strong believer that meditation, muting technology and mindfulness are very influential on our quality of life. However, I think the beauty in the book is that it gives you a little nudge to do them regularly for two weeks, and watch as your mind heals.
I definitely recommend reading this book for a reset if you are feeling a bit stuck in a particular mindset.
Love and Light,
Sarah
